Cambridge ICFE
International Certificate in Financial English
Accountancy has become a truly international profession. Accountants at all levels increasingly have the opportunity to pursue international career opportunities, operating within globally-recognised frameworks, for example in financial reporting, and working within multi-national corporations. It is essential for people who wish to succeed in this global arena to possess first-rate English language skills, enabling them to communicate both verbally and in writing with accounting and finance professionals within the international business community.
Studying for the Cambridge ICFE will help to improve your powers of reading and understanding financial English, of communicating on financial and business issues in written English and of listening to and using spoken English in the business environment.
What is ICFE?
ICFE is an examination that assesses language at upper-intermediate and advanced levels. It spans levels B2 and C1 of the Common European Framework of References for Languages and tests language skills in the context of finance and accounting. It has been developed jointly by Cambridge University and the ACCA.
Benefits of ICFE?
the Cambridge ICFE is an ideal qualification for financial professionals as providing proof of financial English language skills and your linguistic ability and expertise.
Studying for the qualification and attempting the examination both provide certifiable CPD points for ACCA qualifieds.
The Examination:
The ICFE Test is held twice a year, in May and November, and is administered in Latvia by the Baltic Council for International Education.
The Test comprises four elements:
* Reading
* Writing
* Listening
* Speaking
Each element of the Test is based on realistic texts, tasks and topics similar to those that finance and accountancy professionals can expect to encounter in their working lives.
The total time for the four elements of the test is approximately 3 hours.
Eligibility for the Test
There are no formal eligibility requirements – anybody can enter for the exam.
However, the test does require a very good knowledge of English and of all aspects of accounting and finance.
We therefore strongly recommend that anyone attempting the Test should have at least completed the Fundamentals examinations of the ACCA Qualification (or equivalent).
